Dear Colleagues,

Nurses, Paramedical Personnel and distinguished Delegates, I am most honored and privileged to invite you on behalf of the Organisation Committee, to participate and share your expertise and knowledge in this Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery Congress which will be held in Singapore on the 10-11 September 2018. The theme this year is “Expanding New Horizons in Trauma and Surgery “.

Thus, this Congress will be very much enlightening in terms of modern surgical techniques, improved therapeutic protocols and novel approaches to support with great strength the very critically ill patients, to not only lessen morbidities but also increase survival through focusing on their requirements and aspirations.

With a rise in natural disasters and road accidents, we must be prepared to see more and more severely injured patients and sometimes bodies literally beyond repair. In the hospitals, the challenge remains important for patients suffering from ARDS, head injury with severe intracranial bleeding, septic shocks, multi-organ failure, hemorrhagic shocks and extreme burns despite current improvements in medicine and surgery.

But what can we do to reduce the requirement in oxygen for ARDS patients whose uptake in oxygen is so poor? To reduce the brain-pressure damaging effect with neurons dying at 50 mm Hg with intracranial bleeding at 100 mm Hg? To reduce the proliferation of bacteria and the deleterious effects of myocardial-toxins and encephalic-toxins in septic shock? By an anti-toxins shield? To reduce drastically the work-load of organs in multi-organ failure, allowing them to recover gradually to their maximum capacity? To make the body less dependent on the blood for its need in oxygen in massive bleeding? And, to turn around the extreme burnt patient from a catabolic state to an anabolic state?

Further research must be strongly encouraged and conducted in these directions. Eventually, the solutions will be found for the benefit of these critically ill patients. The law of inevitability for good things will prevail again and these accomplishments will enormously please all the Trauma Teams worldwide.

Track 1: Critical Care in Trauma

The faculty in Trauma Critical Care is a multidisciplinary team of experts in the management of critically ill and injured patients. They are available 24 hours a day for the people with conditions such as adult respiratory distress syndrome, necrotizing fasciitis, sepsis, and multiple organ failure, etc. Patients who require a high level of control and intervention either after trauma or during critical illness can benefit from Shock Trauma's critical care resources. The critical care faculty has prompt access to a wide array of sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. Patient care areas are staffed by nurses with specialized training in critical care.

Track 2: Intensive Care Medicine

Medical experts are functioning in intensive care medicine administer critically ill patients with, at risk of, or improving from, potentially life-threatening failure of any of the body’s organ systems. The intensive care unit care of the trauma patient differs from that of other intensive care unit patients in many ways, one of the most important being the need to continuously integrate operative and nonoperative therapy. Although progress in the care of the injured has been made, death due to uncontrolled bleeding, severe head injury, or the development of multiple organ dysfunction syndromes remains all too common in this patient population. Track 3: Nursing in Trauma

Trauma nurses are delicacy patients in a state of emergency, and handle critical position where the cause of injury or disease isn’t yet known. Modern inpatient trauma care relies on a multitude of interrelated surgical and medical specialties , diagnostic tests, therapeutic interventions, and allied health services to reduce mortality and morbidity from severe injuries. The ramification of this care can often overwhelm the ability of the primary medical team to ensure that the care is timely, well organised, and efficient. They can work in hospital emergency rooms and other chaotic environments, and often need to coordinate with doctors, family members and other nurses.

When injured the two main systems affected are the nervous and vascular systems. Psychological trauma is a type of devastation to the mind that occurs as a result of a severely distressing event. Track 6: Acute Care Surgery

Acute care surgery is characterized as the urgent assessment and treatment of nontrauma general surgical emergencies involving adults. More specifically, this model of health care delivery surrounds the optimal treatment of intra-abdominal surgical crises. Acute surgical emergencies often represent the most common reason for hospital admission. These conditions include, but are not limited to, acute appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, pancreatitis , intestinal obstruction, intestinal ischemia, intra-abdominal sepsis, incarcerated hernias and perforated viscous.

Track 7: Trauma Anaesthesia

Trauma patients are pay attention by most anaesthesiologists as part of their "on call" responsibilities. When anaesthesiologists are part of a trauma team they play an important role by enabling effective airway management and resuscitation, managing fluids such as blood transfusions and administering anaesthetics. Anaesthesiologists also administer a patient’s vital life functions during a trauma situation to allow surgeons to focus on and treat the patient’s cause of injury. Patients can be unstable due to brain injury or severe bleeding, and can change condition quickly as a result of their injuries. Trauma anaesthesiologists must have an extensive knowledge of the masterpiece and of medicine in general and must be prepared to act quickly and creatively.

Track 8: Emergency General Surgery

The overall authority for trauma care falls under the general surgery. Some general surgeons obtain advanced training in this field and specialty certification surgical critical care. General surgeons must be able to deal initially with almost any surgical emergency. And General surgeons are the first harbour of call to critically ill or gravely injured patients, and must perform a variety of procedures to stabilize such patients, such as thoracotomy, cricothyroidotomy, compartment fasciotomies and emergency laparotomy or thoracotomy to stanch bleeding. They are also called upon to staff surgical intensive care units or trauma intensive care units.

Track 9: Trauma and Burn Reconstructive Surgery

There are multiple categories of burn surgery there are acute and reconstructive. Acute burn care occurs immediately after the injury. It is delivered by a team of trauma surgeons. Complex burns often require consultation with plastic surgeons, which assist with the inpatient and outpatient management of these cases. Considerable burns, or burns of critical body space, should be treated at a verified burn centre, such as the Trauma Burn Centre. Many smaller burns can be treated with outpatient options. Some patients may need reconstructive burn surgery after the initial burn wounds have healed. This type of care is consistently administered by a plastic surgeon. The goals of reconstructive burn surgery are to improve both the function and the cosmetic appearance of burn scars. This involves altering scar tissue, with both non-operative and operative treatment.

Track 10: Radiology in Trauma

Emergency Radiology is a profession of radiology that method in the diagnosis of the acutely ill or grieve patient in the Emergency Department setting. Multiple imaging modalities, including multi-detector CT, MRI, Ultrasound and X-ray are used. Advanced trauma life support is the standard method for the initial management of severely injured patients. A definitive diagnosis is not necessary to treat the patient initially.
